It is my long observation that PP amps are very bad for driver with Alnico driver, they usually eat all details. The ceramic drivers however, that are ordinary are horrible for HF, are very nicely work with PP amps…[/quo...

What they all can´t do:Give an instrument/vocalist exactly the same size, focus and "substance", no matter where in the stereo panorama it/he/she is located. I do not even speak about total realism of these aspects, just about their independence from...

I never listened to Pass amps, neither class A nor class B, but I think I know a counter-example:The new powerful AB amps from Martion in my opinion play in the same league as the small class A amps in the Orgon active horn system concerning freedom ...

I twice had the opportunity to listen to a Wilson: The Puppy 8 combined with a Lamm power amp and the latest Maxx with Soulution electronics. Both times my impression was that there is some characteristic shining or radiance probably induced by the b...

Recently a German hifi magazine started measuring bass responses of power amps under load. Unfortunately I only had a short glance into the article at a railway station book store, so I don´t remember what exactly they did, but the winner in the 5K i...

The new Denon amps are definitely on the soft side (my sister has one). They have lower wattage than you desire, however (assumed you mean 8 Ohm). The more powerful is in the 1000 € range with nothing in between....

I have an annual early music festival around the corner in Regensburg, but I never managed hearing Hesperion XXI live. You seem to have it better. grrrBTW: go there and find someone else who does the recording for you....
Magico sounded as if the sound was being pushed into the speakers,
Agree. I thougt shall I fall on my knees in presence of the nanotubes? Where is the crossover point to the Vifa ring tweeter? I have already heard crossing ...

Unfortunately I did´t hear the big Lansche. But if the integration of the plasma tweeter is as good as in the smaller one plus better dynamics below and the possibility to use small amps it could be mighty interesting....

Hello Romy!Cessaro had severe resonance problems in their room, so I didn´t stay long here. What I noticed in the short time (maybe too short for a qualified judgement) was no stabiltiy broblems but less musical than the 300B last year. Hard to descr...

Hello Romy, for large SETs price seems to go up exponentially with the power handling (I am sure you know better than me why), so these amps are under strong pressure of having to justify their existence, other than small SETs or pentode push-pull amp...

I just visited the Highend in Munich and had the chance to listen to two of those monster SETs. Cessaro showed up with monstrous 833 amps and my thought was that there is something wrong with the music. I know it is common in this forum to describe w...

How Wilson sounds:Pressure caused by non-linear bass squeezed through narrow port holes.Shining caused by the papery upper mids of a too high crossed 6.5" midwoofer.Sparkle caused by the metal ringing of a titanium tweeter. What Wilson does:Use st...

Meanwhile I did the Steinberg Waveleb test myself and the difference between it and the most common players is immense. The Realplayer does excessive spoothing and softening (too much for me, even though I like smooth and soft sound to a certain amou...
What is revealing is that the system functions poorly with recordings with a lot of reverb. This is what one would expect of course, given the setup. Probably the best recordings to play on such as system would be the old Three Bl...

Hello Romy!I have been into the topic of indirectly firing speakers for a while, starting with highly dirictive fullrangers directed towards the ceiling. I don´t know whether you are familiar to Stig Carlsson´s speakers. Probably the older Sonabs wit...

I recently stumbled across this material:http://www.phonotherm.com/It is slightly less stiff than particle board and really dead.It consists of compressed shreddered foam rests and can be processed with usual woodworking tools....

Romy,I find the Veravox 5 drivers are strong contenders when searching for elevated sensitivity 5" drivers. I heard the Veravox 5X in combination with Shindo SET electronics and found it very natural-sounding. Both 5ers have ceramic magnets, how...

I once visited a Manger addict who had an active system with Mangers and corner horns (equipped with four eightinchers, not heavy pro stuff). I found the Mangers and the horns very well-matching, and one should be glad about every Watt...

What distinguishes the Nextel drivers from most of their competitors is the strong damping, both of the whole system (Qm) and the cone (short settling time for a paper cone, nothing that could be called a resonance). According to the theories of some...

There is a test of the 17 cm Görlich with rubber surrond in the new Hobby Hifi.Very low fs (23 Hz) and low sensitivity (86 db). There is a clear surround resonance, so maybe it would be wise to wait for the announced models with cloth or foam su...
